Han Greenwood moved a lot in his younger years; he lived in California, Texas, Utah and Louisiana before settling in New York City where he attended The City College of New York. He has a deep love for literature, music and art. He plays several instruments, draws, paints, sculpts and write. He also loves cooking. Mr. Greenwood is excited to share his love of literature and language with his students at Arts & Tech.

Anthony Johnson is a product of New York City’s schools and culture, and has been a teacher in the city for over a decade. When he is not at school, he likes to read, keep up with new music, stay active by playing sports, hiking, and exploring new and interesting locations with his wife and kids. Mr. Johnson believes the best life is lived in pursuit of a challenge.

Tess Reichart grew up all over New England and went to college and graduate school in Worcester, MA, where she studied English Literature and Urban Development. As an avid reader herself, she's passionate about teaching English because I believe literacy leads to empathy, understanding, and self-awareness. In her free time she likes to go on bike rides, cook new recipes, and travel to new countries. Ms. Reichart is thrilled to learn and grow alongside my new school community this year in NYC.

Deena Soni was born and raised in the Bronx. She still lives with her family and together they spend quality time watching movies and traveling around the world and attending family functions. When she was younger, she would keep a diary to record her daily thoughts and write poetry. When she later arrived to high school, she was inspired by her Advanced Placement ELA teacher and decided to pursue teaching Literature to students so that they can find their own love for reading and writing. In 2013, Ms. Soni obtained a Masters in Teaching in both English and Special Education.

Humaira Zakaria's passion for reading and writing started as a kid as means of imaginative escape. English and Art were her two strong subjects in high school. She went to The College of Mount Saint Vincent, where she majored in English and Secondary Education, and she also holds an MA in Language and Literacy and an MFA in Creative Fiction Writing from CUNY City College. She has been teaching English for 11 years and believes we read books in order to connect details and themes to psychology, sociology, science, history and current events, which hopefully helps us understand ourselves, others and our world just a little bit better. Ms. Zakaria loves to read books and comic books, collect comic book memorabilia, write stories, paint, watch lots of movies, nap with her two cats, and bother her younger sister, Mrs. Taveras.

CAROLINE BIGLEY

Ms. Geng is from the Great Wall, Terracotta Warriors and Forbidden City. She went to college at North West University and studied Chinese Literature. When she moved to the United States she studied mathematics and computer science. She founded a musical theater camp in China this past summer. She believes that artistic expression enhances English language acquisition. Artistic activity brings out one’s imagination and creativity.

Spencer Harrison grew up in Greenwich Connecticut, and traveled to California frequently to spend holidays and summers with family. He attended Pitzer College where he studied English and World literature. When he wasn’t in school, he was either playing sports or video games with his friends. The sports he played in high school and college were football and rugby. He lived in Los Angeles briefly until he couldn’t stand the traffic anymore and then moved to NYC.  His passion is still creative writing and fiction, and he reads books that combine all my interests such as sports, mathematics, philosophy, history, psychology, and literary history. He like to read, write, and talk about those kinds of books. His educational research interest is in math, writing, and creative projects. Mr.  Harrison encourages all students to make interdisciplinary connections.

Michael Kelly is a Midwest native who went to college in Chicago where he studied Biology with a focus on Biochemistry and Biophysics. His passion for science started with a love of reading sci-fi literature. In his free time, Mr. Kelly enjoys working out, hiking, playing video games, reading and spending time with his dogs.

Jonathan Lustberg was born and raised in New York and attended college at the University at Buffalo where he studied Biology. His passion for science started with a love of animals and an interest in how their structure influenced their functions. He worked in the veterinary field for over nine years before entering the world of science education. In his free time, Mr. Lustberg enjoys listening to music, reading, playing video games, working out and spending time with his three-legged cat.

Erin Haggerty was born and raised in the Lower East Side. She was the first in her family to graduate from college when she received her Bachelor's of Arts from Gettysburg College, where she studied Political Science and History. During her junior year in college, she attended The Danish Institute for Study Abroad where she was able to see the world from a more global perspective. It was during this time that she was able to travel through Europe the and had the opportunity to see first hand many things she studied in the textbooks. She continues to desire to travel and learn about the world. As a teacher, she focuses having her students make real life connections in what they are learning. In her free time, Ms. Haggerty can be seen with a good book in her hand or in the kitchen, where she loves to cook for her daughters and husband.

A native of Detroit, Mr. Reosti taught Social Studies and English for over eleven years in Michigan before moving to New York City. In addition to teaching AP Microeconomics, he has designed elective classes on Human Rights and Detroit History. Mr. Reosti holds a Master of Education from Wayne State University.

Tasnuva Tavares is a native New Yorker who loves history! She received her BA and MA in History from CUNY Lehman. Ms. Tavares is entering her sixth year in the education system and fourth year teaching US History and Government.

Ms. Wooldridge’s passion for social studies was sparked at Brown University, where she studied history with a focus on Ethnic Studies and Middle East Studies. She believes high school students should not have to wait until college to experience nuanced social studies curriculum that builds their critical thinking skills and understanding of themselves, the United States, and the world. Ms. Wooldridge grew up in rural Washington State, attended public schools, and worked in local radio journalism before becoming an educator. She has trained dozens of college and high school journalists.

Merav Bayar was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to New York when she began graduate school. Since then, she has lived in New York City and has enjoyed spending the last few years exploring the city and seeing as many shows Broadway has to offer. She has always loved to read and write. She completed her undergraduate degree at Rutgers University and then a masters degree in special education. She is currently pursuing my second masters at City College. In her spare time she loves to read science fiction and fantasy novels, especially Ender’s Game. Ms. Bayar also enjoys travelling.

Alex de Lima Verde was born in Princeton, New Jersey where he lived until moving to Flower Mound, Texas at 9 years old. Upon graduating from high school, he attended Northwestern University where he pursued a BA in Economics and minored in US History. Mr. de Lima Verde is very excited to be joining Arts & Tech where he will be teaching his own favorite subject, Social Studies. Additionally, over the next two years, he will be pursuing a MA in Education (with certification in Special Education) at the Relay Graduate School of Education.

Lauren Fowler grew up in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in English. She is now a part of NYC's 2018 Teach for America Corps, and is very excited to begin this journey at HS of Arts & Tech. Lauren is also currently working towards her Masters in Education at Relay Graduate School. In her free time, Lauren enjoys reading, traveling, and checking out local parks.

Raised by two physicists who defied stereotypes about who could do science, Miranda Tyson believes in the potential of all students to succeed. She is a native New Yorker who attended city public schools until college, when she enrolled at Harvard University. At Harvard, she studied East Asia, gender theory, and physics. After some time involved in teaching and non-profits in Japan, Mx. Tyson decided to return home and dedicate herself to the empowerment of city youth. In her free time, Mx. Tyson loves talking about Japan, social justice, rocket science, and her dog Toot.

Jorge Arango was born in Colombia and came to the U.S. when he was 6 years old. He has lived in Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx and attended SUNY New Paltz where he attained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. He also attended Fordham University where he attained two Master's Degrees (Special Education and Education Administration). Jorge likes to travel and has visited over half of the states. His goal is to be able to say that he has visited all of them. He hopes to make a difference in students' lives by getting them to believe in themselves and their education.

LINDI GORDON

Gina Llerena is a graduate of the Communications Design program at Pratt Institute earning her BFA in Illustration. Her graduate work at Pratt Institute was toward a M.S. degree in Art and Design Education focusing in Museum Education. As an illustrator she has worked with companies like Crayola, McGarry Bowen, Mara Hoffman, Donna Karan, and has been published in National Geographic Magazine, Graphis Magazine, and Wondertime Magazine. Gina, as an artist and arts educator, has worked as an educator at the Museum of Modern Art, teaching architecture, drawing, and conservation in the museum’s Teen Programs Education division. In addition Gina has taught at The Rubin Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Daniel Webster Magnet School, Pratt Institute, and the 92nd Street Youth Programs where she designed and implemented drawing programs for a range of students. Ms. Llerena is a practicing artist with a children’s book illustration and writing project due to be published this year.

Ms. Conn grew up in Michigan, in a household that welcomed international exchange-students. As a result, she learned at a young age that diversity of culture, thought, and custom makes life all the more interesting and enjoyable. Later, she would learn Spanish as a second language, which led to a love of world-travel, and a career change from professional actress to a teacher of English as a New Language.  Ms. Conn loves to attend Broadway and Off-Broadway theatre, and to go to the many museums in NYC with her daughter and husband on the weekends. She also likes to write and sing songs, and to practice the guitar. Ms. Conn has taught both ENL and Theatre in NYC Public Schools for the past twelve years. Her credentials include a MFA in acting from UCLA and a MA in Science in Education from The City College of New York

Donald O’Connor was born and raised in Long Island New York. He has a passion for sports, martial arts, and music. He studied martial arts and attained a 1st degree black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. He was involved in the JROTC Marine cadet program as a student in high school. He served 6 years in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry marine in the 2nd battalion 25th marines. He received his associates degree in criminal justice from SUNY Farmingdale. His interest in sports and teaching shifted his focus to get a B.S. Degree in Physical Education from Long Island University C. W. Post College. He has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education from Queens College. He is also a licensed Health Teacher. He moved to Manhattan in 2005 to get closer to work. Donald coached baseball, bowling, and handball for several years. Mr. O'Connor's hobbies include playing bass guitar and 6 string acoustic guitar, going to concerts, and going to baseball games.

Ms. Brady was born in Queens, NY and grew up on Long Island, NY and now lives in New Jersey. She earned her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology and her first M.A. in Physical Education from Hofstra University. She later went on to receive her second M.A. in School Leadership from Touro College. She has been teaching for NYCDOE for 15 years and was a personal trainer at Equinox Fitness Club before becoming a teacher. When she is not teaching she loves working out engaging in many different activities: Jogging, Boxing, Hiking, Weight Training and Eating Healthy. She is an avid reader, loves to travel which includes this summers trip to Portugal! She has two beautiful cats named Hershey and Trevi and loves spending time with her family and friends. She is excited about starting her 6th year at H.S for Arts and Technology and diligently working to prepare her students to live active and healthy lives.
